COVID-19: Beware of these symptoms even if you are not having fever

According to researchers, there are eight signs that tell whether you’ve contracted the virus in the past.

Just when everyone thought that the COVID-19 pandemic might come to an end in the near future, the virus has surprised everyone with new strains and second waves around the world, including India. 

With COVID-19 related deaths nearing the 3 million mark, it is only natural that people worry about getting the virus or having contracting it in the past. While one can easily get tested to know if she/she has the virus, an antibody test is also done for determining if you’ve had the virus in the past.

But it could also happen a patient is positive for the virus but is also asymptomatic. According to researchers, there are eight signs that tell whether you’ve contracted the virus in the past. Experts say that these symptoms will come up months after getting the virus.

RED OR BLOODSHOT EYES

According to researchers, red eye or conjunctivitis is symptom of COVID-19 but it can be easily missed since its not a classic sign. However, the red eye in case of COVID-19 will be secondary to other symptoms like a fever or a headache.

Unusual Cough

Coughing is a common symptom of the COVID-19 virus. These coughing sounds are ‘different’ from your typical coughs as they are more persistent, harder to control and they also change your voice.

Stomach Problem

As per American Journal of Gastroenterology’s newly published study stomach problems are also linked with COVID-19. People contacting the virus may undergo gastrointestinal problems such a diarrhoea, nausea, loss of appetite and abdominal cramps which could go undiagnosed in the absence of the symptoms. As per the study, 48.5% of 204 people who had been infected by the virus in China reported having digestive symptoms such as diarrhoea

Shortness of Breath

This is another common symptom of the COVID-19 virus. Dyspnea is know and difficulty in breathing and can be accompanied with tightness in the chest, palpitations and rapid breath

Brain Fog

Brain fog is difficulty in concentration, remembering things and the feeling of being confused. Patients who have had COVID-19 in the past say that they have had cognitive problems after suffering from the virus.

Fatigue

Fatigue and exhaustion happens to be one of the key symptoms of COVID-19 that patients might suffer from months after contracting the virus. As for people recovering from any other viral infection, the body tends to heal within a week or so, but with COVID-19, it tiredness can last upto six months. According to a study, 63% of patients have reported suffering from fatigue, weakness, muscle pain for almost six months after the first symptoms start to show up.

Loss of Smell

Loss of taste and smell is also one of the common albeit frustrating symptoms of COVID-19. Loss of olfactory senses can impair your smelling and tasting abilities and according to recent happenings, sensory impairment is also being reported as COVID-19 symptom.

High Blood Temperature

While having fever doesn’t necessarily mean that you have COVID-19, it is the most common symptom of the virus. The fever is usually exceeding 37.6 degree Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit and can also be wavering and accompanied by shivers and chills.
